Linda Maria
Linda Maria is a 22-year-old photographer, from Ontario, Canada and has been using her photography as a form of self-expressionism and empowerment since she was 14.
Ever since Linda was little; her imagination took her to untouchable places. She would create stories and draw pictures of worlds in which anything she could think of was possible and discovered very early on the power that art holds.
The power to simply escape into the unknown with nothing but a blank canvas and a limitless sea of ideas. Although as she grew older, she lost touch with this childish sense of wonder and curiosity, building worlds to no longer play in, yet escape into instead.
With obstacles and hardships that came her way, it took her a while to learn how to channel her emotions back into her art. Self-expression though, soon became her biggest strength and it allowed her to not only understand herself deeper, but it also allowed her to gain a greater sense of benevolence towards others.
She saw the world in a whole new light and began exploring the complexity of the human condition within her work.
The weird, the wonderful and the terrifying have been things she's never stopped looking for within herself, as well as within the world around her. She wants to go beyond what we see at the surface and capture more than just a moment, but the emotions that encapsulate it.
What being featured means to Linda:
“Photography has given me so much throughout the years, it has taught me beyond just authenticity and self-exploration. Self-portraiture in particular, became this form of therapy to me, it was a way I could look at myself from an outside perspective and question my own identity, as well as constantly challenge my own values or beliefs. To be able to not only share this with a greater audience, but be able to have opportunities from doing so, it would mean I could put all this passion and love into my photography work, for so many other people. I could expand my reach and give to others what photography has given me, a voice.”
