Feristah Bey

Feristah Bey aka Ogulcan Kayhan, is an artist persona.  

In 2016 Ogulcan was a high school student with a big passion for art, and no art skills (or so he thought at that point in life).  

He thought to create his own personal image, an anonymous persona who designs artworks such as poems, drawings etc. Ogulcan didn’t start creating until 2018.  

Feristah is an unused and rare Turkish word that means “the best, the most superior”. Yet, even most Turkish people do not know the meaning of the word. And Bey means ‘Mister’ (Mr.) in Turkish. 

In November 2017, Ogulcan bought a camera and started as a hobby to take photographs. Day by day, his love for photography grew more and more. The idea of freezing the moment caught his attention. He decided to create an Instagram account for Feristah Bey and started displaying his work. 

Ogulcan’s passion for photography was greater than he thought. Ogulcan and Feristah Bey gradually became one (in another saying, Ogulcan became Feristah Bey). He quit university and moved to London from Istanbul in 2021. His aim to shoot a film in the next 10 years. 

Ogulcan (aka Feristah Bey) believes that creating artwork is not a very special thing. Everything can be artwork if the artist says so. He is not telling a story, and he has no holy purpose. He creates pictures that look pleasant. He loves to memorize moments; therefore, he takes pictures. When it comes to publishing, he wants to present beautiful colours and good-looking things. He believes that the woman body is the most aesthetic ‘thing’; it is poetic, and fluid. Besides portraits, he likes to captures architectures, streets etc, whatever looks nice in his eyes. 

 When he is on a photoshoot, he does not ask for a pose, he lets you do whatever you want, and captures that moment, he wants to shoot real emotions, and wants the model to be completely comfortable with him. 

All his pictures are natural moments from life, he freezes time. Whenever he looks at a picture, he relives the moment in his mind. This is why photography is what keeps him alive.
